Mary McKinnon
November 8, 1934 - September 27, 2020
Mary L.
McKinnon age 85 of Parkers Chapel passed away Sunday,
September 27, 2020 at the Medical Center of
South Arkansas, following a
brief illness. Mary
was born on November 8, 1934 in Prescott, AR to the
late Florence Hall
Ledbetter and Dennis Ferrish Ledbetter.
Raised on a dairy farm Mary was the
oldest daughter of 6 children. She
learned to milk cows
and can garden produce at a young age. She
attended college at
Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas
University) where she majored in business education
and graduated in
three years. College
is also where she met and married Morris McKinnon
on September 2, 1955.
Both Mary and Morris went on to work for the
Mount Holly School District for 28 years and
at Parkers Chapel School for
2 years as administrators and teachers. She
attended the University of
Fayetteville during summers working on her Masters Degree in
Secondary Education.
Mary McKinnon retired with 30 years and went on
to substitute at
Parkers Chapel for another 15 years. She touched many
lives as an educator
and those lives touched her.
Mary was a member of Pleasant Grove
United Methodist Church where
she served as
treasurer for 20 years. She was the secretary/treasurer of
the Curtis Grove and Pleasant Grove
Cemeteries. She also was part of
the church group who
sang twice a month at Nursing Homes for 35 years.
She was a member of the Derrick
City Sams Camping Club and Camp
Hosted at Lake Catherine
State Park for 30 years.
Mary was preceded in death by her
parents; one sister, Bobbie Jo
Ledbetter; one grandson, Matthew Reaves; son
in law, Mike Reaves, and
grandson in law, Josh
Koon.
Those left to cherish her memory
include; her husband of 65 years, Morris
McKinnon; two daughters, Kathy Reaves, and
Rhonda Swilley and
husband Tracy, all of
Parkers Chapel; two sons, Randall McKinnon and
wife Cathy of Fairplay, CO, and Steve McKinnon and wife Regina of
Farmerville, LA; five grandchildren, Dianna
Adams, Chris Reaves,
Amanda Brown and husband Harvey, Kimberly
McKinnon and Koby
McKinnon; six great grandchildren, Addalyn Adams, Emma Adams,
Karley Koon, Wesson Koon, Dallas Malone and Graeham Malone; three
sisters, Martha
Thomas of Eureka Springs, AR, Dorothy Bayne of Tyler,
TX, Elizabeth Collins and husband Clay of
Hope, AR; one brother,
Tommy Ledbetter of Eureka Springs; two sisters
in law, Billie Jean Loftin
of Shreveport, and
Frances McKinnon of Fayetteville; two brothers in law,
Jerry McKinnon and wife Sue, and Danny
McKinnon, all of Bossier City,
LA; special nephew, Larry Carter and wife
Carolyn along with a host of
other nieces, nephews
and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm
until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September
30, 2020 at Bailey Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 on
Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Pleasant Grove
United Methodist Church,
with Bro. Tracy Roden officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove
Cemetery under the direction
of Bailey Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: Koby McKinnon, Chris Reaves, Sterling Claypoole,
Tommy Pierce, Jeremy Carter, Troy Bayne,
Harvey Brown and Greg
Bayne. Honorary
pallbearers will be: current and past members of the
Derrick City Sams Camping Club, fellow faculty and her former students.

to Pleasant Grove Cemetery or
Curtis Grove Cemetery Funds, C/O Morris McKinnon,

Though She's gone, She is not forgotten.
Though absent, She remains in spirit.
Though once a worker, She now rests.
